Alastair Little – farewell to a great chef & my inspiration August 2022

Very sad to read that Alastair Little had died this week from heart problems, exacerbated by a bout of long Covid, at the young age of 72. I had the great pleasure of assisting him several times many years ago, when he ran Italian cooking weeks in Tuscany, sharing the delicious delights with foodie travellers. These Tasting Places weeks went on to become my inspiration to set up my kitchen in Spain.

One of my main jobs for Alistair was being on hand when  “Brown tea please Annie“ was requested.  A chilled beer is an essential aid to keeping cool in the Italian kitchen! I often think of him when my group & I knock back a mini Estrella, in the heat of my kitchen!!

He was a tremendous cook and his students & I were always in awe, leaving after a week with full bellies & hearts.

His books are legendary and I am lucky to have 4 in my collection.

Such great sadness for his family and friends. RIP #alastairlittle
