We start the day by shopping for supplies in Vejer. Dishes will be seasonal and likely to include gambas ajillo, tuna & red pepper salad, gazpacho (melon & mint or traditional or almond & garlic), we might boil an octopus or gut fresh boquerones, I’ll share the secrets for the perfect tortilla, Annie B’s albondigas and a yummy cake for dessert. Also included – a preserved tuna tasting & Sherry education.

Starting the day with shopping at Barbate market to learn about local fish, visit a tuna preserve shop and have coffee with Manteca (pork fat) on toast (the best part of the day!) in local Venta before heading back to the kitchen to prepare lunch. Dishes such as Pescado a la Sal with salsa verde, fresh prawns with dipping sauce, clams, fresh boquerones, and chocolate & almond cake. Also included – a preserved tuna tasting & Sherry education.

Learn more about the influences the Moors left behind in Andalucian kitchens. Lots of fabulous vegetable dishes such as zalouk, babganoush, carrots with preserved lemons, chickpea salads, Moroccan spiced chicken or fish with yoghurt sauce using lots of feta, mint & parsley. Finish with Moroccan cakes and mint tea. Tasters of Sherry & Spanish wines also included.

This full day tour leaves Vejer at 10 am and returns at 6 pm. We visit two bodegas and learn all about Sherry. Price includes bodegas entries, transport, lunch & lots of delicious Sherry!
Time: 10.00 – 18.00 Cost depending on numbers: approx €300 – €375 per person
I am a qualified Sherry Educator and love nothing more than sharing my passion for this phenomenal local wine and its fascinating history. During the class, I will guide you through Sherry & food matching and you will quickly realise that it’s one of the most food-friendly wines in the world. You will taste at least 6 different types of Sherry, each with a matching tapa.
Time: 2.5 – 3 hours. Cost: depending on numbers but for a class of 2 people 155€ per head, 4 people 125€ per head
The Costa de la Luz is filled with the most delicious produce – Almadraba tuna, preserved tuna, Iberian pork, fabulous fish, seafood, and incredible wines & Sherries. On one of my day cooking classes or tours, you will take your tastebuds on a gastronomic journey by learning about and preparing some of the best dishes on offer. It’s a fantastic introduction to the food and wine of Andalucia.
